Government to consider announcement as part of wider policy review
The Isle of Man Government says it will consider changes announced by the UK yesterday (12 May) to its immigration policies.
Sir Kier Starmer unveiled plans to ban the recruitment of care workers from overseas, tighten access to skilled worker visas and raise the costs to employers in an effort to curb near record net migration.
In a statement, the Isle of Man Government says, whilst alignment with the UK is important, these changes to policy and practice are not 'mirrored automatically' here.
A review is currently taking place into immigration routes to the Island.
Government says it will 'consider the changes announced by the UK as part of this review to determine whether they are appropriate for the Isle of Man’s social and economic needs'.
It adds, Cabinet Office Minister David Ashford will make a statement to May’s sitting of Tynwald, to provide an update.
