New laws could extend to Manx property owners
189 tenants sought advice on their dwellings from the Office of Fair Trading last year, according to chairman David Quirk MHK.
This morning he faced questions in Tynwald from West Douglas MHK Chris Thomas about whether tenants are classed as consumers under a 1991 law.
Mr Quirk said, generally, they are - but landlords may not be covered by the Consumer Protection Act if they weren't registered as traders.
