Teaching unions divided over survey findings
Union chiefs have defended the Department of Education amid claims the 'overwhelming majority' of Island teachers have suffered abuse or violence from pupils outside of school.
A report by the NASUWT found 82 percent of its members had been verbally abused, and nine per cent had faced a physical threat.
However representatives from other teaching unions have questioned the findings due to the survey's low number of responses.
They say the report is a false and damaging reflection of the situation, as pupil behaviour in Island schools is largely very good.
