A teacher in the Isle of Man who has been the victim of malicious calls is welcoming moves by Sure Mobile to tighten controls on SIM card ownership, by registering its Pay as you Go customers.
Andrew Shipley says the actions and support of staff at Manx Telecom are also much appreciated by people who have been on the receiving end of silent and obscene mobile phone calls.
However, he says MT's view that the problem of malicious calls may be "more down to people's attitudes than the technology they are using" won't solve anything.
He says it's because people understand technology that a very small minority of phone users are able to carry on with such socially unacceptable behaviour.
Mr Shipley is Isle of Man branch secretary for the Association of Teachers and Lecturers and says the union will be working with Sure in whatever ways it can:
