Police reinforce Christmas safety message
Police are urging residents to apply simple home security measures, after a property was burgled in Douglas.
Officers received the report this morning - it's believed the owner failed to lock his doors before going to bed.
Sergeant Gary Heaton says the Island's long-held reputation as 'a place where you can still leave your doors unlocked' no longer applies.
In a statement, he goes on to say 'the only stranger we expect to see enter anyone's home over the next 24 hours is Father Christmas'.
The Constabulary has stepped up its efforts to reduce burglaries in recent weeks, reminding homeowners to keep hedges low, leave lights on and draw their curtains.
