A number of people are going dipping in Douglas today (Saturday) in memory of their friend, and to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Island's hyperbaric chamber.
It's not an official dip location, but the group of men and women will be braving the cold at the bottom of Broadway, at 1pm.
Lindsay Quayle is a member of the Breakthrough Breast Cancer committee, and has taken part in the dip in Peel on two occasions.
She has been persuaded to join the Douglas dippers, and says it can take a lot of nerve to get into the water (play audio file):
Locations for official New Year's Day dips include Peel, Laxey, Castletown, Port Erin and Port St Mary, and Gansey.
