Two week trial co incides with start of FoM
Police in the Island begin a two week drone trial today (19 Aug).
Officers hope airborne cameras will prove a boon at investigations into road accidents, at crime scenes and during searches for missing people.
Drone cameras will be supplied and operated by Island firm ELS, in a pilot project with the Department of Home Affairs.
Police officers will call for the drone at incidents as required, and monitor the images recorded on camera.
The company will be responsible for safety and meeting all civil aviation regulations.
It's hoped the rapid deployment of drones at road accidents will speed up inquiries, and see roads re open more quickly.
