Ramsey looks set to have its CCTV network upgraded using money confiscated from criminals.
Ramsey Town Commissioners is progressing plans with the Isle of Man Constabulary which will be funded the Seized Asset Fund.
The fund reallocates money which has been confiscated as part of criminal investigations.
The upgrade means police would be able to monitor the northern CCTV network remotely from the Emergency Services Joint Control Room.
Clerk Derek Flint says it should help protect residents and ensure they feel safe in the town:
Ramsey Town Commissioners would remain as the data and system controller and would enter into a data sharing agreement with the constabulary to facilitate wider access in real time.
The Isle of Man Constabulary is overseeing a national strategic project using the Seized Asset Fund to upgrade CCTV provision and interoperability across the Island.
A bid for Douglas has also been considered.
