Manx Utilities says extended outfall pipe would cost £8m
It wouldn't be cost effective to extend a sewage pipe in Laxey Bay to improve the quality of the area's bathing water.
That's from the chairman of Manx Utilities after Garff MHK Daphne Caine asked whether an extended outfall pipe was being considered, particularly to tackle the issue of sewage in the bathing water after a storm surge.
Tim Johnston says it would cost £8m to extend the pipe, while using UV radiation to sterilise the water would cost £600,000.
He warns it's just not possible to prevent all contamination in storm conditions:
