Government confirms rollout to patient transfers
Patients who have to travel off Island for hospital treatment will be offered the Covid-19 vaccine from next week.
Priority slots will be opened up for patient transfers on Monday.
If possible vaccinations will be carried out prior to travel to the UK – medical professionals directly involved with a patient’s care will be required to confirm vaccine suitability.
Once confirmed the Patient Transfer Office will work with the 111 team to book slots.
Health and Social Care Minister David Ashford said: “I am pleased that those vulnerable patients, who need to travel to the UK, as part of their treatment process will begin to receive the vaccine. It is a significant step in protecting these individuals.”
The Government has confirmed escorts will not be offered the vaccine at this stage.
