A man who’s alleged to have run amok in a courtroom, assaulting a judge and two advocates, will discover his fate next week.
Anthony Adenaike of Bucks Road in Douglas denies assaulting Appeal Judge Tatershall, causing actual bodily harm to Chris Arrowsmith and Paul Rogers, and affray.
The incident is said to have happened in March last year when Mr Adenaike was appealing against his dismissal from a job at Paddy Power, at an employment tribunal case against the egaming firm.
A jury of five men and two women was told he threw a jug at the judge’s bench and struggled with the two advocates as they tried to restrain him.
In his defence, Mr Adenaike claimed he’d thrown water at Deemster Doyle and Appeal Judge Tattershall as a protest and hadn’t meant to frighten them.
He denied he’d hit one of them when he threw the empty jug, and said he’d fought with the two advocates in self-defence.
Yesterday, the prosecution and defence summed up their cases before Deemster Cross next door to the courtroom where the altercation’s said to have taken place.
On Monday, the Deemster will sum up the evidence and give legal directions before the jury retires to consider its verdicts.
