What’s your view on the Island’s open skies policy?
That’s what a Tynwald committee wants to know as it takes a closer look at the Isle of Man’s position.
The policy allows any airlines with the required operating licence to fly routes to and from the Island, but it has its critics.
Protecting existing flights while expanding the range of services is the challenge facing the economic committee and ultimately Tynwald.
Supporters argue the ‘Open Skies’ policy remains in the best interests of the Island, encouraging an adequate, frequent and long-term network of scheduled air services between the Island and major business and social destinations.
However, others say the policy can lead to too much competition and, at a time when there’s instability in the aviation industry, lead to the failure of operators.
Submissions should be sent to the committee at government offices by January the third.
The committee hopes to report back to Tynwald by next April.
