Views sought on plans to modernise education

DESC wants to update laws in line with 'current expectations and future needs'

Members of the public are being invited to share their views on the latest plans to refresh and modernise the Isle of Man's education laws.

A six-week consultation's been launched by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture on the draft Education Amendment Bill.

It's designed to update education laws in line with what the department refers to as 'current expectations and future needs'.

Key areas such as inclusion, safeguarding and provision for additional educational needs require an updated legal framework to ensure all children and young people are supported to thrive - whatever their background or circumstances.

The draft Bill outlines practical reforms across nine key areas.

They include promoting the education of children who are looked after, alternative provision of education, religious education, admissions and school capacity, additional safeguarding measures, emergency school closures, children who are not in school, educational grants and funding and additional education needs.

Contributions to the consultation must be received by the department before 15 June - you can read more about the proposals and submit your views HERE.
