Contact tracing continues after two new positive tests

Two new cases of coronavirus, including one affecting a primary school child, indicate the virus has spread into the wider community after two recent clusters on the Isle of Man.

That's from Chief Minister Howard Quayle, speaking at a government briefing this lunchtime.

Contact tracing has so far been unable to identify the source of the latest infections.

Mr Quayle admits it will be disappointing news for the Manx public:

All those who attend or work at St Mary's Primary School are asked to self-isolate today while contact tracing continues.

Those who are identified as close contacts will receive a call from the team today. All others are free to end their self isolation tomorrow.

The child is one of two people who tested positive for coronavirus on Friday evening. Further details about the second person were not released at the briefing, aside from confirmation that the source of their virus has not been identified, but is also presumed to be connected to the recent clusters.

There are now a total of 20 active cases of Covid-19 on the Isle of Man. Seven people are awaiting results, with 352 waiting to be tested.
