Idea could tap into large new tourist market
Plans for a new visitor centre at Knockaloe with the potential to attract large numbers of visitors to the Island could be in jeopardy.
The centre, which is planned for old Patrick Schoolroom, would mark the historical significance of the huge World War One internment camp at Knockaloe.
However, the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture have dropped plans for new enterprises at Knockaloe - and it's feared a network of paths around the site, promised by DEFA, may also be scrapped.
One of those behind the visitor centre, Alison Jones, says without proper access to the site itself, their concept of tapping into a big new visitor market is heavily compromised - and will have to be put on hold.
