A politician who is standing down after nearly 40 years of public service believes now is the right time to bow out.
George Waft has confirmed he is retiring from politics after withdrawing from the race for the vacant seat on the Legislative Council.
Mr Waft, who has severely criticised some MHKs for their 'quite farcical' behaviour during the still unresolved election, says he is not too disappointed, despite failing to attract enough support to regain his seat (play audio file):
George Waft was a member of the Legislative Council for 16 years.
He was an MHK for Onchan from 1991 to 1994, and an Onchan commissioner for two decades before that.
