Any staff pay rises at Douglas Borough Council can only be funded from existing resources.
That's the firm stance of council leader David Christian on the issue of future pay awards.
Mr Christian insists no extra funding will be made available as the council won't burden ratepayers at a time when many of them have had no pay increases either.
He is hoping staff understand the position in a climate of economic uncertainty and says, from the local authority's point of view, the decision was a straightforward one to make (first part of audio file):
