All over the Island yesterday (4 August) public services and smaller acts of remembrance took place to mark the outbreak of World War One.
At night, lights were turned out in public and private vigils.
Around 80 people gathered around the national war memorial in St John's, where tributes were paid to the Island's war dead.
There was a similar gathering on Douglas Head for a candlelit service, as decorative lights around the capital were dimmed from 10pm.
Earlier in the day, parties of school children were taken on a tour of war memorials around the Island, laying a wreath at each.
