
Rate rises are in the offing for Isle of Man residents, when a sharp rise in waste disposal charges is imposed on local authorities next year.
It's emerged the Infrastructure minister has approved a 14 per cent increase in charges for disposal at the incinerator.
The cost is set to go up from £30.74 to £35 a tonne, from next April.
Clerk to Lonan Commissioners Peter Hill says his board will have to find an extra £2,000 a year.
He says the increase will be passed onto ratepayers but will hit the lowest paid the hardest:
