But screening equipment will be operational by this September
It's hoped the new sewage treatment works in Peel will be fully operational by the end of next year.
The chair of Manx Utilities has been providing an update to members in the House of Keys this morning (23 June).
John Wannenburgh confirmed screening equipment is due to be online this September, meaning large items such as wet wipes will no longer be discharged into the bay.
He said this will 'give benefit to beach users and the marine environment at the earliest opportunity':
Mr Wannenburgh confirmed the first four IRBC units are due to be commissioned in April next year, ahead of the 2027 bathing season, which he said will "bring about huge improvements to bathing water quality".
The final units will be in place by the end of next year.
Final landscaping and site demobilisation will then take place in early 2028.
