He had served as MHK for Rushen since 2006
Juan Watterson has been elected as the new President of Tynwald.
The Rushen MHK, who had served as speaker since 2016, replaces Laurence Skelly.
Mr Watterson was nominated by Douglas East MHK Clare Barber who praised his work in opening up Tynwald to younger people and his work with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
With no further candidates nominated, Mr Watterson was elected with 28 votes for and two against and one vote was expected but not cast.
The absence of Kate Lord-Brennan was not known in advance so the system was therefore set up to expect a vote from her.
Following confirmation of his election, Mr Watterson addressed the court:
As deputy speaker, Douglas Central MHK Ann Corlett took over Mr Watterson's role in Keys.
The result means Rushen will have at least one new MHK come the end of September. Mr Watterson had served as MHK there since 2006.
