Work continuing to contain contaminants
West Quay in Peel remains closed this morning (Wed 24) following a fire on a trawler last night.
The alarm was raised around 11.30 last night, when fire crews found a well-developed blaze within the cabin of a fishing vessel.
Firefighters were unable to gain access into the cabin . . and had to use cooling techniques and water management to prevent the vessel from being swamped by firefighting water.
Foam was then used to extinguish the flames and coastguard and members of the DOI deployed pollution booms to contain contaminants.
The blaze is now out - but fire crews are still at the scene while work is completed to deal with containment and environmental issues.
People are being asked to avoid the area until the operation has been completed.
