Offshore's index provides off-centre analysis
A study has ranked quality of life in the Isle of Man on a par with Kazakhstan, East Timor and Cuba.
But things may not be all they seem.
The Quality of Nationality Index, compiled annually by Jersey-based Henley & Partners, weighs global jurisdictions on criteria like economic prosperity, security, life expectancy and travel rights.
Each nation is assigned a score out of 100 - the Isle of Man is given just 30.9, placing 92nd overall.
By comparison, the UK ranks twelfth with 79, and Germany comes out on top with 82.
However, the devil is in the detail.
While the Manx score reasonably on border freedoms and passport power, our national finances, peace and stability are given 'zero' ratings.
Given a war hasn't been fought on our soil for centuries, the low score most likely stems from a simple lack of data.
Researchers have been approached for comment.
