Accused pleads guilty to theft charge
A Douglas woman stole from a shop she was already banned from for shoplifting, a court's heard.
Denise Elizabeth Watterson of Bucks Road appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.
She pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted theft at Dealz on Strand Street.
Prosecution advocate Barry Swain told the court Watterson had been banned from the store in 2018 after being caught stealing.
At around 2pm on 4 February, a member of staff spotted Watterson as she entered the store and went downstairs to the clothing department.
There, she put a number of items into a bag and left the shop after paying for just one of them: Staff followed her and detained her until police arrived.
In interview, unemployed Watterson said she didn't know why she'd taken the items and said she couldn't believe she'd been caught stealing from the same shop again.
She was fined £300 and ordered to pay £50 towards prosecution costs.
