Work to replace four kilometres of water mains in the south

Project forms part of a £3.5 million investment over the last five years

A 30-week programme to replace four kilometres of water main in the south of the Island is to begin this week.

The £500,000 project will run from Ballaglonney Farm along Grenaby Road to Ballaquinney Farm.

The work is part of a £3.5 million investment over the last five years to replace around 20 kilometres of water mains in the south of the Island.

The latest work will replace a main laid in 1967 which supports delivery to over 3,800 customers. Manx Utilities says it's the final priority replacement required for the present time, and will help provide a robust supply to the area for many years to come.

The programme of mains replacements will also mean that much less treated water is lost through repeated bursts, safeguarding water supplies.

The latest installation route will take place primarily in fields but could occasionally affect roads as the work progresses.
