Officers issue update following incident in Douglas

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service has praised the actions of workers in Douglas after a battery caught fire.

Crews were called out to reports of a structure fire in the area earlier this afternoon.

Upon arrival, the officer in charge was told a battery may have caught fire within the building.

However, they say thankfully the batteries in question were stored in a bespoke unit designed to limit the spread of fire and supress any flames.

It prevented the fire spreading to the fabric of the building, and minimised any resulting smoke damage.

Crews worked with staff on site to isolate and remove the battery so that it could be placed in a safe area prior to disposal.

The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service says the quick actions of workers on site ensured that the fire did not spread and nobody was injured.

The emergency service is asking people to ensure that any batteries are charged in line with the manufactures instructions and kept away from escape routes.
