£26,000 for successful projects

Culture Vannin has launched a special fund to support projects for the Year of the Manx Language 2026.

Applications open today (Monday 22 September) inviting creative ideas to celebrate and promote Manx, with £26,000 available for successful initiatives.

Culture Vannin says they’ll welcome applications from individuals, groups, and organisations both on-Island and beyond to propose ambitious projects that celebrate, develop, and increase the use of Manx throughout next year.

Culture Vannin Chair Chris Thomas says: "2026 presents an opportunity to focus ourselves and others on our Manx language by supporting projects that align with the themes of the Year of the Manx Language.

"These include: engaging young people and families and celebrating identity and sense of place; nurturing community and creativity; developing research and resources; and promoting lifelong learning.”

Projects might include public engagement activities, creative collaborations, research, recordings, publications, workshops, educational resources, or pilot initiatives that strengthen and sustain the Manx language.

Those that are successful must include some form of online delivery to ensure accessibility and reach.

Director of Culture Vannin, Dr Breesha Maddrell, added: "We’re looking for projects that showcase the vibrancy of the Manx language and inspire people in 2026 and beyond.

"This fund offers the chance to support creative, ambitious, and meaningful ideas that will make a real difference for the language and for everyone who values or connects with it."
