Forecasters warn to expect 'large high tides over the next few days'
There'll be a yellow weather warning in place tomorrow (Tuesday 9 September) for inner harbour flooding.
It will come into force at 00:01am and will remain in place until 3am on Wednesday (10 September).
Forecasters at Ronaldsway Met Office say it's due to 'large high tides over the next few days'.
The areas most at risk are the inner harbours of Castletown, Douglas and Ramsey.
The Met Office has issued the following breakdown:
- Time of high tide Tuesday 00:50am (Douglas – a few centimetres below the Tongue / Castletown – Tide should remain about 10 cm below lowest flood gate – however floodgates should be closed.)
- Time of high tide Tuesday 1:09pm – No issues expected
- Time of high tide Wednesday 1:30am (Douglas – less than 5cm above Tongue – flood defences on The Tongue should be deployed / Castletown – very close to base of flood gates – within a couple of centimetres – floodgates should be closed / Ramsey – a few centimetres onto the Quay at Mezeron Corner)
They say the 'tides remain large for much of this week, so this advice is likely to be extended' and added that 'warnings for coastal overtopping are likely to be needed this week – but will be issued separately'.
