Matter was discussed during extraordinary meeting of commissioners
Onchan District Commissioners says an agreement has been reached on a new lease for Onchan Raceway.
During an extraordinary meeting of the authority on 24 November, it states the tenant of the facility, Onchan Raceway Ltd. had agreed to proposed new terms over the immediate future of the site.
The lease issued with 'approved additional clauses' would be for a 12-month period which would be valid from 1 December this year and any further contracts would be considered following a six-month period of review.
Previously, Onchan Raceway Ltd. had raised concerns over what it claimed were 'a number of constraints' within the proposed new lease which would make day-to-day running of the facility 'increasingly difficult.'
One change to the previous terms put forward by the commissioners is that the tenant will be allowed to ask permission for the kick-a-bout field to be used for stock car events which include competitors travelling from off-Island to compete.
Furthermore, a 2026 schedule of stock car racing events, practice and training sessions at the site was given the green light by the board.
Among the other decisions resolved by the board include that the tenant clears the banked track at the raceway of vehicles before the end of January 2026.
