Chief Minister Allan Bell has is urging the Manx public to get behind Mark Cavendish in the contest to be crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2011.
Cav is on the shortlist of ten sports stars who have been nominated, but faces tough competition from the likes of US Open golf champion Rory McIlroy and England cricket captain Andrew Strauss.
The Manx Missile, already the most successful British cyclist of all time, is currently the bookmakers' favourite to scoop the coveted BBC award.
The ten nominees for the award will be put to a public vote during the show which will be broadcast live from Salford at 8pm on Thursday (December 22).
The telephone number to ring to vote for Cav will be revealed on the night.
