Erika Kelly smashes PB in opening round of WWL
Round 1 of the Winter Walk League got underway this weekend.
There's a major format change for this season's Winter League, with the series reduced to three rounds and the 10k distance dropped.
Senior athletes race over 5 kilometres, and this race included two younger walkers racing over 3 kilometres.
Erika Kelly produced a superb performance. Her time of 23:11 was a big personal best and placed her 10th on the all-time Great Britain rankings for the women's 5k road walk.
Chris Addy continued his recent impressive showings in walking events with second place in 28:26, and Sean Hands was third in 28:35.
Tim Perry recorded an excellent 3k time of 16:53 in what was his first attempt at the distance, and he was in close company with Chris Addy for most of his race.
