Athletics: Manx Fell Runners athlete wins IOM Marathon

Victory for Samuel Jones as Molly Whitehall takes women's title

A Manx Fell Runners athlete took victory in Ramsey at this year's Altenar Isle of Man Marathon.

Samuel Jones completed the event in an impressive time of two hours 39 minutes and three seconds to finish in the Ballacloan Stadium over 13 minutes ahead of second place James Read. 

Meanwhile, Molly Whitehall crossed the line in three hours 25 minutes and 54 seconds to win the women's category, which also saw the athlete finish 18th overall.

Elsewhere, in the half-marathon Corrin Leeming won the contest for the third year in a row with a time of one hour seven minutes and 11 seconds, whilst Dawn Atherton finished first in women's category in one hour 30 minutes and six seconds. 

The event was organised by the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club (IOMVAC) which saw both the marathon and half-marathon events run on what is known as the Manx Northern Course covering just under 13.25 miles which started and finished inside the Ballacloan Stadium on North Shore Road in the northern town.
