Island athlete takes top-ten finish at European championships
Isle of Man athlete David Mullarkey managed a top-ten finish during his track debut for Great Britain last weekend.
The Manxman secured eighth spot during the Men's 5,000m race at the 2025 European Athletics Team Championships which were held in Madrid, Spain from 26-29 June.
In a 16-strong field, Mullarkey's time of 13 minutes, 53.31 seconds saw him finish nearly three seconds clear of Sweden's Jonathan Grahn in ninth (13 minutes, 56.03 seconds).
The race was won overall by Niels Laros of the Netherlands who claimed gold in a time of 13 minutes, 44.45 seconds.
Great Britain & Northern Ireland went on to finish the championships in fifth overall on 381 points.
Italy were crowned champions on 431.5 points whilst Poland (405.5 points) and Germany (397 points) finished second and third respectively.
