Athletics: Mullarkey sets 5km PB at world championships

Manxman represents Great Britain in high-calibre race

Isle of Man runner, David Mullarkey set a new 5km road personal best whilst contesting this year's World Athletics Road Running Championships.

At the meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday (19 September), the Manxman finished 21st in the men's race in a time of 13 minutes and 31 seconds.

Furthermore, that pace made him the eighth-fastest European competitor in the race whilst he was the only Great Britain representative in the event.

The overall winner of the 5km road race was Eritrea's Dawit Seare in a time of 12 minutes and 56 seconds. 

Ahead of this year's World Road Running Championships, Mullarkey enjoyed a memorable summer where he won bronze in the Men's 10,000m race at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on 28 July.

Separately, he also representing Great Britain at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham in August where he was the highest-placed Brit in the Men's 10,000m.
