Athletics: Schade and Cain winners in Peel to Douglas Trail Race

Both were first-time victors at this year's meeting

Corbyn Schade and Christa Cain have been crowned winners of the 2026 Peel to Douglas Trail Race - the first time either has taken victory at the event.

The meeting - organised by Manx Harriers - took place on Sunday, 20 September with Schade of Western AC taking the men's and overall win in a time of 56 minutes and 21 seconds to secure the Karran Cup.

Second-placed men's and overall competitor, Ryan Corrin of Manx Harriers, also dipped under the 57-minute mark at 56 minutes and 45 seconds whilst completing the men's podium in third was Harry Kneen of Dark Peak Fell Runners in 57 minutes and 45 seconds.

Meanwhile, Cain receives the women's shield by crossing the line as the first female finisher and seventh overall, clocking 59 minutes and 49 seconds.

That pace also saw Cain become only the second women's runner to complete the course in under one hour and was only five seconds off the women's record time set by Rachael Franklin in 2020.

Elsewhere, Kirsty Barber of Western AC (one hour, eight minutes and 37 seconds) was the second female competitor and 21st overall followed by Rebekah Pate of Manx Fell Runners who was the third woman and 22nd overall in a time of one hour, nine minutes and 21 seconds.

Separately, and for the first time in 2026, the race incorporated a club team competition in which the first three finishers for each club formed an 'A' team, third to sixth the 'B' team and so forth.

Winning the team contest was Western AC's 'A' team of Corbyn Schade, Dave Bignell and Paul Atherton on 18 points.

The second team placing went to the 'A' team of Manx Harriers (Ryan Corrin, Nhlanhla Nzama and John Halligan) on 22 points ahead of the 'A' team of Manx Fell Runners (Mark Burman, Matt Callister and Shaun McEntee) on 27 points.
