Paul Atherton finishes in top 40 during Sunday challenge
A number of local athletes put in strong performances at the weekend for this year's edition of the Chester Marathon.
A total of 16 competitors from a range of Island clubs took up the challenge held on Sunday (6 October) with Western AC's Paul Atherton - representing England in the masters section - setting the fastest Manx time.
He crossed the line in two hours, 36 minutes and 55 seconds to finish 40th overall across the classes - the second-quickest Isle of Man runner was Nick Bowden who was the only other Island participant to go under the three-hour mark at two hours, 53 minutes and 49 seconds.
Meanwhile, Dawn Atherton put in another consistent performance to be the fastest female Isle of Man competitor and take third place in the FV40 category in three hours, six minutes and eleven seconds.
Making up the Island's women's top three were Jayne Farquhar and Sammy Bowden - both crossed the line within just under 90 seconds of each other with Farquhar clocking three hours, 51 minutes and 33 seconds whilst Bowden managed three hours, 53 minutes and one second.
