Athletics: Syd Quirk Half Marathon entries close early due to demand

Spaces for November meeting fill in just over 24 hours

Entries for this year's Syd Quirk Half Marathon athletics event have had to close just over 24 hours after opening due to 'overwhelming demand.'

It's been confirmed all 500 places available to take part in the competition on Sunday, 17 November were filled by yesterday afternoon (10 September) having only opened on Monday morning (9 September).

Organisers the Isle of Man Veteran Athletes Club (IOMVAC) says its unable to accommodate a waiting list at this time and is thanking people for their continued support and understanding.

Having had a capacity of 400 participants in recent times, the number of spaces was extended to 500 in 2024 due to previous high interest.

Last year also saw high volumes of competitors with entries in 2023 having to close just nine days after opening.

The meeting sees those involved take on either half-marathon run or half-marathon walk races on a course in the south of the Island in and around the Castletown and Ballasalla areas.
