St George’s have moved to the top of the Canada Life Premier League and confirmed their status as title favourites.
Two goals from Chris Bass junior, one a penalty, and one apiece from skipper Sean Quaye and Frank Jones fired them to a 4-1 win at title rivals Old Boys to leapfrog their opponents at the summit.
Mark Burman scored for the home side but there was no stopping St George’s.
At the other end of the table, Gymns are off the bottom and have given themselves a chance of survival after winning 6-3 at Douglas Royal, who are now at the basement.
Max Stokoe (two), Farrell Iveagh, Nick Bowden, Connor Byrne and Mark McCarrick were the Gymns scorers.
Reigning champions Rushen won 5-3 at Corinthians, thanks to goals from Josh Kelly (two, one pen), Mike Baker, Mike Edge and Adam Cregeen.
The home side battled hard and were level at 2-2 at the break but played much of the match with 10 men after Simon Nicol was sent off for dissent.
Their scorers were Ruari Mooney and Danny Gerrard (two).
In the only game in JCK Division Two, Colby’s promotion hopes took a blow as they went down 3-2 at in-form Braddan.
Will Smith, Michael Shimmin and Jack Murray grabbed the goals and, although Danny and Kevin Kinveton hit second half goals for Colby, it wasn’t enough to earn a point.
