Champs see off holders

St Mary's win at Geordies

The combination league champions knocked the holders out of the Ascot Hotel Junior Cup on Saturday.

Old Boys saw off Rushen United 3-0 in the quarter-final at Blackberry Lane.

A well taken long range effort from Mikey Booth gave the hosts a 19th minute lead and the contest remained in the balance until midway through the second half.

That was when a contentious penalty was awarded to the home side.

Rushen goalkeeper Tom Collister saved Robbie Ward’s spot-kick but officials ordered the penalty be re-taken after adjudging the keeper had moved before the ball was kicked.

Given a second chance, Old Boys made no mistake.

Nigel Moody converted from 12 yards and Drew Ward sealed victory a minute from the end.

Old Boys will now host Laxey who were 5-1 winners at Colby.

Talented teenager Stan Manning (two), Cian Brock (two) and Gary Williams were on target for the Miners.

A goal in each half from Jay Corrin and Josh Molyneux fired St Mary’s to a fine 2-1 win at St George’s.

They pulled one back through James McStay in an entertaining contest at Glencrutchery Road.

The Saints will now travel to St John’s who ended the run of the remaining Combination Two outfit Foxdale.

Doubles from Stu Morrison and John Haggerdon sealed a 4-1 win at Mullen-e-Cloie.
