Cricket: Changes to senior league structures for 2025

Increase in shorter format matches part of amendments

An increase in shorter format matches will be part of changes to the structure of senior cricket on the Isle of Man from next season.

In a recent statement, Isle of Man Cricket Association (IOMCA) confirmed that for the 2025 campaign three in every four weekends will be dedicated to a shorter 20-over format.

It's hoped this along with other alterations - including to T10 and midweek leagues - will encourage more players to get involved and allow clubs to enter more teams as well as freeing up time around the sport on matchdays for those involved.

The IOMCA adds clubs are currently in the process of contacting the organisation to confirm team entries for the upcoming season.

The increase in 20-over weekend fixtures means that longer formats - 30-over, 35-over and 40-over fixtures - would take place on one in every four weekends.

Elsewhere, amendments to the midweek league system will see top divisions sides playing T10 cricket at the start and end of the season.

IOMCA says this and a subsequent new play-off finals event will help determine the Isle of Man club representative in the European Cricket League for 2026.

All other divisions will play in shorter formats to 'allow matches to be played in more favourable light conditions and finish slightly earlier in the evening.'

The midweek leagues will also be limited to having matches on Wednesday evening's with no option of Thursday fixtures, however officials thinks this will mean people have the option of playing either on a Wednesday or Saturday going forward.

Cup competitions will be held on Sundays.
