Isle of Man lost to France on final day
The Isle of Man u19s cricket team lost to France in a fifth place playoff in the ICC Europe Division 2 u19 World Cup Qualifiers.
Middle order batsman Kyle Gunnion tried to steady the ship for the youngsters as he finished not out on 23 in the playoff match, but it was not enough as the Isle of Man were bowled out for 83, in a 269 run chase.
The Manx were placed in a difficult group B where the opponents included France, Sweden and established cricketing nation - the Netherlands.
The competition took place in Denmark, where the top two sides of each group would qualify for the playoffs where a minimum of two teams would make the European Division 1 qualifiers.
It was a difficult start for the young side as they lost to the Dutch in their opening game, before defeats to both France and Sweden saw the Isle of Man finish bottom of the group stages.
However, the u19s managed to get their first victory in the 5th place semi-final.
They faced Belgium, and were set a target of 151 and chased the score down in 43 overs to win by two wickets.
Ryder Spencer was the pick of the batters for the Island across the competition with a highest score of 61 not out and an average of 30.
