Rare challenging day for Island side at the hands of Greece and Estonia
The Isle of Man men's cricket squad endured a rare tough day of results yesterday (1 October) as they were beaten in all three of their latest play-off matches at the 2024 European Cricket Championship in Spain.
In the first of those play-off matches for the Manx side at Cartama Oval in Malaga on Tuesday they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Greece despite the Isle of Man's Charlie Webster managing an unbeaten 103 not-out in an impressive solo innings.
The only one to outclass Webster was Greece's Sinan Khan who managed a sensational 110 runs to help them to victory.
Following that was a fifth meeting with Estonia at the tournament and the Island squad found themselves on the end of another eight-wicket defeat.
Estonia successfully chased down the Isle of Man's score of 164-3 with two overs to spare, including a century from Estonian batsman Sahil Chauhan.
The third and final encounter of the day saw the Isle of Man face Greece for a second time with the latter once again taking the game, this time by a nine-wicket margin.
A slower innings this time for the Isle of Man managing a total of 100 over the ten overs saw Eddie Beard manage the highest solo run total of 26.
Greece were able to charge down the benchmark in just over five overs which included a half-century from Amarpreet Singh Mehmi.
The Isle of Man is back in action in the ECC play-offs again today - they face Czechia at 11.30am with the qualifier and finals of the play-offs being held later on.
