Former British and world champion calling time after 18-year journey
Ben Swift has announced he will retire from professional cycling at the end of the 2026 season.
The 38-year-old - who has represented the Isle of Man at the last two Commonwealth Games - has confirmed he'll call time on an 18-year journey at professional level at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Explaining his decision, he says never in his 'wildest dreams' did he think he would have such a long and successful career.
He's currently involved in this year's Lloyds Tour of Britain men and adds there will also be some other events he'll still take part in after that before bringing things to an end:
During a lengthy career at the elite end of the sport, his major achievements include being a two-time British national champion on the roads in 2019 and 2021, becoming a world scratch race champion in 2012 and competing at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
In 2022, he first represented the Isle of Man in the men's road racing team at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Then, in late July and early August this year, he was one of two Isle of Man riders who took on the track cycling events at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow alongside Matthew Bostock who went on to claim gold in the Men's 40km Points Race.
