Cycling: Manx riders among TLI National Championships winners

Two-day Island series returned for first time in four years

Multiple Isle of Man riders were among the winners during the 2026 TLI National Championships on Island last weekend.

Making its return to Manx shores for the first time since 2022, the event saw three racing events take place across two days on Saturday, 12 September and Sunday, 13 September.

On day one (12 September), Manxman, Tyler Hannay claimed victory in the time trial in the St Mark's region with a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds.

Fellow Isle of Man rider, Nicola Quaye was the fastest female rider in the time trial, completing the course in 22 minutes and 26 seconds.

Later that day, Hannay was victorious again, this time in the afternoon road race 'Race 1', with the local rider taking top spot three minutes and 24 seconds ahead of fellow Manx athlete, Zach Walker in second.

The quickest of the women's riders in Race 1 - another Isle of Man competitor in the form of Abi Clayton - would finish 25th in the overall standings.

Elsewhere, Race 2 for Masters B-G riders was won by Carl Potter.

The third and final set of races took place on Sunday (13 September) with several battles across numerous age groups around the streets in Douglas for the town centre criterium.

In the opening event for E-G Category male riders, Karl Smith, Graham Payne and John Galway emerged as Male E, Male F and Male G class winners respectively.

Race two saw C & D Male Class competitors take to the Douglas course with Simon Harding and Paul Thursfield taking the top spots.

After that was race three for Youth A, Youth B and Masters A-B competitors - there was a Manx one-two-three in the Youth Male race with Thomas Hutchinson, Daniel Minay and Tommy Bass claiming first, second and third respectively.

The respective Male A & B titles went to Graham Waller and Matthew Hughes; Abi Clayton was the first and only Junior Female finisher whilst Poppy Clayton and Grace Robinson were the two Youth Female finishers.

The finale then featured the Senior and Junior Male categories battle it out - Hannay scooped another victory by taking top spot in the Senior Male class ahead of Zach Walker in second and Arthur Yates in third.

Meanwhile, there was more Isle of Man success in the Juniors as Cameron Hounsell emerged as category winner ahead of Alec Sorby and Elliot English in second and third respectively.
