Manx squad to contest all road and MTB races
The Isle of Man's cycling squad to contest this year's Island Games has been announced.
Nine riders have been selected in total with the Manx squad to compete across all of the road and MTB events.
Five of the athletes were present at the previous games in 2023 - Mark Horsthuis and Niall Quiggin were part of the last road events whilst Owen Collins, Ross Thorley and Eric Kelly were involved in the mountain bike disciplines.
New additions for this year include Tyler Hannay - who stepped away from professional cycling last month - along with Ivan Sorby, Callum Salisbury and Cian Howard.
At the last games in Guernsey two years ago the Isle of Man took six medals overall across the cycling classes.
The women's MTB team of Sacha Horsthuis and Kirree Quayle won the cycling team's only gold - team gold in the MTB criterium with Quayle also claiming individual bronze in that event.
Later in those games, Horsthuis and Quayle claimed another team medal, this time silver in the women's MTB cross country race.
Elsewhere the men's teams won three medals, one of which was team silver in the town centre criterium courtesy of Will Draper, Michael Faid, Jamie Fletcher, Mark Horsthuis and Niall Quiggin.
The men's mountain bike lineup of Elliot Baxter, Owen Collins, Eric Kelly, Alex Rockwell and Ross Thorley won team bronze in both the MTB criterium and cross country events.
The 2025 Island Games will take place in Orkney from 12-18 July.
The first cycling event will be on Monday, 14 July with the time trial between 11am and 3.30pm in the West Mainland.
The day after on Tuesday, 15 July will be the MTB short track races at Market Stance in Kirkwall from 2pm until 5pm.
Attention then turns to the roads again the following day (Wednesday, 16 July) with the road races from 10.30am to 4.30pm on a course in the West Mainland.
The second MTB event - the cross country - follows the day after (Thursday, 17 July) at Binscarth Farm between 10am and 4pm.
The final cycling competition will the town centre criterium in Kirkwall from 1pm until 4pm on Friday, 18 July.
