Cycling: Victory for Hannay in Clayton Spring Classic Handicap

Manx rider had also taken time trial win the day before

Manx rider Tyler Hannay has taken his first two victories of the calendar year.

The Saint Piran competitor took top spot in the 15-lap Clayton Spring Classic Handicap race on Sunday (25 February) ahead of PROJECT 1 Cycling Team's Logan Maclean in second with the final podium place in third going to Wheelbase CabTech Castelli's Tom Martin.

That win in Clitheroe made it double success for 20-year-old Hannay over the course of the weekend after he'd also cycled to victory in the Bolton by Bowland time trial event the day before on Saturday (24 February).

Taking to social media afterwards, the Island-born racer described it as the 'perfect start' to 2024, adding it's been a 'long hard winter but hopefully all the effort will pay off with more wins as the season continues.'

Having joined the Cornwall-based Saint Piran side in July last year, Hannay went on to earn a contract extension with the outfit in November 2023 to remain with the squad for 2024.
