Darts: Isle of Man's tough opening day of WDF European Cup

Manx campaign begins with team events in Slovakia

The Isle of Man's darts teams got their 2024 WDF European Cup campaign underway in Slovakia yesterday (25 September).

The Manx squad had eight players taking part in the opening team events of the competition at the X-BIONIC SPHERE in Samorin during Wednesday.

For the men's lineup a tough day saw them suffer 9-1 defeats to both England and Lithuania and 9-2 losses to both Italy and Austria.

Meanwhile, the female team had an equally challenging day one with three defeats with two of those coming against Republic of Ireland and Hungary with 9-1 and 9-3 scorelines respectively.

They did however push their final opponents of the day France much closer, only narrowly missing out 9-6.

Today, play will begin at 1pm local time with the men's pairs which will run up to and include the semi-finals and at the same time the women's singles competition gets underway and will run up to and include the Last-32 stage.

Later at 7pm local time last-16 and quarter-finals phases of the men's team tournament as well as the Last-16, quarter-finals and semi-finals of the women's team event.
