Double triumph for Nomads!

Southern Nomads have completed a memorable season by clinching a league and cup double.

They lifted the Shimmin Wilson Manx Trophy with a 29-15 victory over Vagabonds B.

Kevin Riley scored two tries for Vagabonds but it was Nomads day – again!

And a double celebration for the club began when Emerging Nomads lifted the Shimmin Wilson Manx Bowl.

Opponents Castletown had to win by five points or more to take the crown and were on course, leading 10-0 at the break through a Daryl Richards try, as well as a penalty and a conversion from Sam Peel.

However, a try from skipper Justin Meechan, converted by Dave Edge, early in the second half turned the match in Nomads’ favour.

And another try from regular marksman Kevin Quantril, again converted by Edge, sealed a 14-10 victory and, more importantly, the Bowl for Nomads.

Ramsey narrowly missed out on promotion but can be proud of their debut season in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Four.

They had to win by 30 points against second placed Linley but in the end had to settle for a 17-11 victory.

A Lance Wylie try, converted by Fintan Cummins who then notched and converted a try of his own, gave them a good start.

Josh Powell reduced the arrears before half-time and although another Cummins penalty restored hope, two penalties from Linley’s Jade Green meant the gap was too much.

In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One, it was a miserable day for a make-shift Vagabonds as their injury hit side were demolished 83-0 at Winnington Park.

Their opponents in next week’s Manx Cup Final didn’t warm-up well either.

They went down 50-10 at Anselmians who clinched the Division Two crown as a result.

Douglas, themselves not at full strength, battled hard and only trailed 12-5 at half-time, thanks to a Peter Fisher try.

Jeff Miles added another in the second half but while that was their only bright spot, they can be pleased with a final position of sixth in their first season in Division Two.

Fran Hunt was the hero with seven tries as Vagabonds gained promotion from RFU women’s North-West Division Two.

They went on the rampage at second from bottom Eccles, winning 112-10.
