Big improvement for Vagabonds
Two tries from James Maddrell helped Douglas to a narrow win away at Burnage in North One West.
Maddrell’s brace, plus a try from Liam Kirkpatrick, all converted by Aidan O’Shea, saw Douglas leading 21-15 as the final seconds ticked away.
A late try from Burnage gave them a shot for a win with the conversion but it sailed just wide.
Defeats for Stockport and Warrington mean Douglas move up to fifth in the standings.
In South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two, Vagabonds lost 19-10 at home to Dukinfield.
It was a spirited showing at Ballafletcher after an awful run of results.
Dukinfield led 14-0 at half-time and an early second half penalty from Cameron Finlay finally got Vagas on the board.
A try from Aaron Ledingham, converted by Finlay, got them to within striking distance at 14-10.
However, a try from the visitors saw them pull away again and Finlay missed a late penalty which would have given Vagas a losing bonus point.
Ramsey had a rare pointless day at the Mooragh Park in Division Three South.
Tries from Jack Done and Tony Jones, plus a penalty from Joel Coles, gave Ellesmere Port a 13-0 lead at the break.
Jordan McGrath scored just after the restart and Ollie Feathers ran in the bonus point try on the hour.
Coles’ conversion made the game safe at 25-0 and Feathers’ second with 10 to play was just gloss.
Ramsey had their chances but strong defending kept them out.
