Douglas win away but miss out on bonus point

Douglas beat Ashton on Mersey 22-16 in a scrappy game in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division One but their three tries weren’t enough to secure a bonus point.

Bryn Snellgrove and Niall Killey both crossed for Douglas who also earned themselves a penalty try.

Snellgrove converted two and added a penalty for good measure.

The win moves Douglas into second place in the table after promotion rivals Glossop lost at leaders New Brighton.

In Division Two, Vagabonds put in a solid performance at Ballafletcher, beating visitors Orrell 34-0 in difficult conditions.

Sam Liver, Joe Louw and Ross Pulman all crossed for first half tries with Aidan O’Shea converting one as Vagas led 17-0 at the break.

Pulman added his second after the restart and there were also tries from skipper Mark Howarth and Mark McGreal.

Leigh Kennaugh converted one.

The win moves Vagas into fifth place.

At the other end of the table, struggling Ramsey gained four valuable points as they beat Moore 8-0 in a low scoring game at a wet and windy Mooragh Park.

The game was scoreless at half-time but a second half penalty from Dan Bonwick and a try from Tom Kinrade were enough to take the points.

Ramsey still sit in the relegation zone in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two but are now only a point adrift of Dukinfield.
